Conference on Global Quality and Innovative Pedagogy in China

Together with Renmin University of China, NASPAA was pleased to host the Conference on Global Quality and Innovative Pedagogy on April 6-7, 2018 in Beijing, China. The two-day global event included conversations on accreditation planning, strategic management, and in-depth discussions of innovative pedagogical strategies for public administration programs in and around China.

Representatives from public policy and affairs programs in China and Vietnam attended the Accreditation and Strategic Planning Workshop on April 6. The workshop was facilitated by Yi Lu (John Jay College, CUNY) and David Campbell (Binghamton University), who led discussions on topics covering public service values, program mission, diversity and inclusion, program evaluation and student learning assessment, and program governance. Beijing Conference 2018

On April 7, over 60 faculty members and program administrators from across the region participated in the Innovative Pedagogy Conference, discussing research and best practice in pedagogy of public administration programs. Four experts joined participants to discuss simulations and applied training, cases, and online teaching:

  • David Andersen (University at Albany, SUNY) explored simulation-based learning in the classroom (handout available here).
  • Song Jinsong (Chinese Academy of Governance) discussed trainings in emergency management.
  • William Rivenbark (The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) provided an overview of online education in public affairs.
  • Huang Jinsong (Beihang University) presented on case studies and integrating them into curriculum.
