[POSTPONED] Advancing Quality and Innovative Teaching & Learning for Public Service
We regret to inform you that due to the health concerns related to the recent global outbreak of the novel coronavirus, we are postponing our two-day conference on Advancing Quality and Innovative Teaching & Learning for Public Service, which was originally scheduled for March 26-27, 2020, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
NASPAA’s regional conferences are important opportunities to convene our global network and share best practices in public service education, strategic program management, and pedagogy. We are committed to bringing together colleagues from Southeast Asian countries to discuss NASPAA accreditation, excellence in teaching and learning, and creative ways to incorporate simulations and case studies into classrooms. We look forward to continuing these conversations as we engage in other settings, and to hosting these conversations in Vietnam in late 2020/early 2021.
We appreciate your understanding and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delay. Together with Fulbright University Vietnam, we look forward to reconnecting with you soon. We will inform you regarding further updates on this event.
In the meantime, we hope that you are all safe and healthy.
Together with Fulbright University Vietnam, NASPAA is pleased to invite you to participate in our two-day conference on Advancing Quality and Innovative Teaching & Learning for Public Service. The conference will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on March 26-27, 2020.
This two-day event brings NASPAA’s global network to Vietnam, connecting faculty from Southeast Asian countries to share best practices in public service education, strategic program management, and pedagogy. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to navigate through simulations developed for the annual NASPAA-Batten Student Competition and learn from experts how to develop and incorporate simulations and case studies into the classroom. Participants will leave with practical ideas to implement at their home institutions. The conference will be delivered in English.
Day 1 will focus on strategic program management as an organizing principle for the NASPAA accreditation process, including mission and goal setting, student learning assessment, faulty governance, and diversity and inclusion. Using cases and exercises based on Asian programs’ experience in the accreditation review, the sessions will provide an intimate and interactive opportunity to learn how accreditation supports program growth. Registered participants will also have the option to request a one-on-one meeting with the workshop facilitators to ask program-specific questions. This is an excellent opportunity for any programs interested in integrating mission-based evaluation processes into program delivery, learning more about the accreditation process, or seeking NASPAA Accreditation.
- Providing a broadscale understanding of NASPAA accreditation cycle and its relationship to programs’ strategic management efforts;
- Providing hands-on experience, through individual and group activities that apply standards to non-US contexts.
Day 2 will focus on innovative pedagogies to boost student learning and professional preparation for the public service, including teaching with case studies, as well as computer-based simulations. Pertinent issues within the field of public affairs and relevant to Asian schools will be emphasized. The process by which simulations enable students to practice the knowledge and skills acquired in classroom setting within a “real-world” setting will be demonstrated hands-on. Day 2 will expose newly developed simulations to faculty members and professors, and provide guidance on how to incorporate these tools in their classrooms.
- Teaching cases to maximize student learning and professional preparation for public service;
- Demong simulations used during the NASPAA-Batten Student Simulation Competitions -- led by FUV students and NASPAA staff;
- Incorporating computer, web-based simulations in the public administration classroom to promote data-based decision-making.
NASPAA warmly welcomes you and your colleagues to join us in Ho Chi Minh City!
