NASPAA Simulation Committee Webinar

Title: Navigating the Use of Educational Simulations to Innovate Effective Teaching and Learning for Public Service - with NASPAA and DMS Academy
Description: This webinar brings together members of NASPAA’s Simulation Committee to navigate the value and use of educational simulations in the classroom. Attendees will learn about the purpose of simulations in public affairs education, the data on student learning outcomes, the teaching strategies by educators experienced in simulation learning, and the steps to take to get started with simulation education yourself, including cost structure. This webinar is collaborating with DMS Academy to discuss the Pandemic Simulation.
Pandemic Simulation: In this simulation, students are confronted with the real-time spread of a deadly infectious disease. In the roles of government ministers (Prime Minister, Minister of Communication, etc.), they must work together to decide which policies to implement in order to stop the pandemic. During the simulation, students interact with other “country governments” and make decisions about complex, intergovernmental policy proposals in a fast-paced environment. They experience real public service pressures as they are challenged to protect their nation from the outbreak before it’s too late.
