Yesler Terrace Development Site Visit - 2026 Global Conference
Join us for a walking tour the Yesler Terrace Development project, and hear from a panel of residents, Seattle Housing Authority staff, and Seattle University representatives about the revitalization project that began in 2013, the lived experiences of the residents, and ways in which Seattle University has partnered with Seattle Housing Authority to support the Yesler Terrace community.
The Yesler Terrace Development is a 30-acre site near downtown Seattle, just up the street from Pioneer Square and next to Seattle’s Chinatown-International District. Originally developed by the Seattle Housing Authority (SHA) in the early 1940s, it was the city’s first publicly subsidized housing. In 2013, the SHA began a revitalization project to replace the aging housing units, increase the number of affordable housing opportunities and create a mixed-use, mixed-income neighborhood.
Today the site includes SHA partnerships with community groups to support education and job training initiatives for youth and adults, community building activities, green spaces and gardens, and initiatives for the arts and placemaking. Join us on a site visit to Yesler Terrace to learn about this initiative and more.
