How did you select your graduate school and how did it prepare you for your career? > I live in the town where the University is located. The MPA degree complimented my managerial career. Any work or internship experience during graduate school? > I worked full-time while attending school. What was the most important or useful course you took in the MPA/MPP? > It is difficult to say that one class was more helpful than all others. I would say that cumulatively the MPA courses were great. Were you a Presidential Management Intern? > No. What has been your career path since graduating? What do you want to be doing in 5 years? > Since graduating, I have been promoted to administration for a managerial role. I hope to move into government within the next five years. Working for The Department of Health in Wyoming is appealing to me. What is the most exciting and/or interesting aspect of your current job? > The constant challenges that I am assigned to overcome and the feeling that my education has prepared me to meet those challenges are the most exciting and interesting aspects of my occupation. Do you feel your MPA/MPP is helping you to “make a difference?” How? > The MPA degree simplified and clarified administrative work for me. Some of the course work directly applied to my field, while other courses allowed for more creative thought. Overall, the MPA degree has helped me become a more mature leader and has helped me achieve great things for our community hospital. What advice, if any, would you give to an undergraduate thinking about going for an MPA/MPP? > I would encourage prospective students to enroll and to get as many different experiences as possible while in school. The degree has such a broad application in the professional world that a particular “course of study” is not necessary. Enjoy!
