At its spring 2004 meeting, held at the
National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) in Washington, DC on
April 2-3, the NASPAA Executive Council focused on the program activities,
plans, and partners associated with the strategic directions endorsed last
fall by the Council and NASPAA members. The Council also approved an
operating budget for NASPAA for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2004,
and addressed ways in which NASPAA programs and services could continue to
be strategically aligned with member institutions’ priority needs and
expectations. < back to top > Annual Reports for Accredited Programs: Deadline is May 10, 2004
It is annual report time again for
NASPAA-accredited programs! NASPAA’s Commission on Peer Review and
Accreditation (COPRA) requests an annual report from every accredited
program that is not currently in accreditation review or in its self study
year. NASPAA/APPAM Doctoral Program Workshop – June 4-5, 2004

Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW), begun in
1985, provides opportunities in Washington, DC and in many states and cities
across the nation to celebrate and honor the women and men who serve America as
federal, state, and local government employees. Sponsored by the Public
Employees Roundtable, PSRW has received the support of the president, members
of the U.S. Congress, and officials from all levels of federal, state, and
local government. The theme of PSRW 2004 is “Celebrating Government Workers
Nationwide.” NASPAA Website Update: International Corner The International Committee of NASPAA has initiated an International Corner on the NASPAA website as a way for NASPAA members to share the international dimensions of their programs with NASPAA colleagues and other constituencies. Members are encouraged to submit information about curricula innovations that show how their programs incorporate international, global, and transnational trends and developments in public affairs education. International Corner items will remain on the website for one to two months, and then they will be replaced by other submissions reviewed by the NASPAA International Committee. The initial materials posted in the International Corner are submissions from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh; the Evans School, University of Washington; the Maxwell School, Syracuse University; and the Wagner School, New York University; please see http://www.naspaa.org/principals/Int_corner/main.asp. The NASPAA International Committee hopes that these four institutional submissions, which are quite different, will provide alternative models for other NASPAA institutional members to send their own submissions to the International Committee at naspaa@naspaa.org. Additional information about the submission of institutional international materials and the International Committee’s review of these submissions may be found in the December 2003 issue of Public Enterprise at http://www.naspaa.org/principals/public_enterprise/2003/ 12.asp#INTERNATIONALCORNER. Scholar in Residence at Partnership for Public Service – Applications Welcome The Partnership for Public Service and NASPAA are again pleased to solicit applications from among NASPAA faculty and doctoral student scholars for a Scholar in Residence position at the Partnership. Scholar in Residence candidates should be actively engaged in research on civil service topics, especially those pertaining to the federal workforce. In reviewing proposals, the Partnership and NASPAA will give priority attention to scholars whose proposed research would have practical implications for federal workforce policies or programs. For a detailed description of this Scholar in Residence opportunity, including the application procedures, please see the joint letter from Ken Tolo (NASPAA) and Max Stier (Partnership for Public Service) at http://www.naspaa.org/principals/pdf/PPS-NASPAAScholarinResidence2004.pdf.
