www.hotelsdc.com is a great source for finding hotels at all price ranges. Another recommended site is www.sidestep.com; even though it is not easy to use at times, this latter site has some hotels that are not listed on the other Web site (some hotels are on neither site). Following are some possibilities, but there are many more. Nearby hotels include Four Points by Sheraton, 1201 K St., NW, 202-289-7600 ($179/night when I looked on hotelsdc.com); Hilton Garden Inn, 815 14th St., NW (near H, New York, and 14th), 202-783-7800; Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza (near 14th and K Streets); Morrison Clark Inn, 1101 11th Street, NW (near Massachusetts Avenue and 11th); Marriott at Metro Center (corner of 12th and H Streets, NW; likely to be expensive); and the Grand Hyatt, 11th and H Streets, NW; likely to be expensive). In addition, consider hotels in other parts of Washington, DC (e.g., Dupont Circle, Farragut Square area). It is very easy to get to NAPA using the Metro subway system (see Location section above in this e-mail). Examples of hotels: Radisson Barcelo at 2121 P Street, NW, a two-block walk to the Dupont Circle Metro stop on the red line, recently had rates of $160 a night on sidestep.com for December 5-7. The Club Quarters, 839 17th Street, NW, is right at the Farragut West stop on the Orange and Blue lines and the sidestep.com rate recently was $129 a night for December 5-7 (small rooms). The Churchill Hotel, 1914 Connecticut Avenue, NW, is right across the street from the Washington Hilton Hotel about 3 blocks north of the Dupont Circle Metro stop, and rates on sidestep.com recently were $130 a night for December 5-7. Jurys Hotel on Dupont Circle has also been recommended. Do your due diligence on the hotels -- we're listing, not advocating. If unsure, you may want to speak with Washington, DC area members of our career professionals group (or NASPAA staff) for further information about preferred geographic areas of DC, etc. (Many people contributed to writing the Hotel section). But what about fun? During the academic year--is that even possible?! In addition to our spicy conference discussions, separately you will be hearing about our wonderful wine tasting and dinner in Georgetown. There will be a separate charge for that and I expect to have information to you by Nov. 10. Later in November, we will be asking you more specifically about discussion topics. And, finally, we need each other. The ideas and support engendered from the meeting is special. Please don't hesitate to contact NASPAA for logistical/registration questions (naspaa@naspaa.org) or me (prbrust@yahoo.com) for content ideas and questions (note: I will not have access to email Nov. 3-5). On behalf of the planning committee and NASPAA, thank you and see you in D.C. Phyllis prbrust@yahoo.com
