The following data are from institutional
responses to NASPAA’s Fall 2003 Enrollment and Academic Year 2002-2003
Degrees Awarded Survey, administered by NASPAA in spring 2004. The data
reflect only participating NASPAA institutional members. [See also the
non-participating NASPAA institutional members]. Of the 250 NASPAA
institutional members as of spring 2004, 199 responded to the survey as of
July 1, 2004, giving the survey a response rate of 80%.

multiple master’s degrees.
* NASPAA institutional members were provided three spaces in which to
enter “other” degrees. The most common of these “other” degrees is a
degree in (Urban) Planning, Urban Studies, or Urban Affairs; 13 members
listed one of these master’s degrees. Other reported master’s degrees
include, but are not limited to, Health (Care) Administration, Criminal
Justice, Political Science, International Public Affairs, International
Development, Public Policy Administration, Transportation Policy
Operations and Logistics, Economic Policy Management, Higher Education
Administration, Nonprofit Management, Environmental Science, Public
Service Management, and Enterprise Engineering and Policy.
Joint/Dual Degrees Offered:
2002-2003 The most common degree
offered jointly with the MPA/MPP is the JD. These joint/dual degrees are
offered by 59 of 199 institutional members that responded. Other
joint/dual master’s degrees offered with an MPA/MPP include, but are not
limited to, Social Work, Business Administration, Urban Planning, Regional
Planning, Criminal Justice, International Affairs, Nursing, Doctor of
Medicine, Mental Health, Public Health, Divinity, Latin American Studies,
and Environmental Science.

Joint/Dual Degrees Awarded: 2002-2003
From September 2002 to August 2003, the responding
NASPAA institutional members awarded a total of 322 joint/dual degrees. Among
the 199 members that responded, 57 (29%) awarded one or more joint/dual degrees.
DIVERSITY
The following data are from institutional responses to NASPAA’s Fall 2003
Enrollment and Academic Year 2002-2003 Degrees Awarded Survey, administered by
NASPAA in spring 2004. The data reflect only participating NASPAA institutional
members. [See also the non-participating NASPAA institutional members]. Of the
250 NASPAA institutional members as of spring 2004, 199 responded to the survey
as of July 1, 2004, giving the survey a response rate of 80%. However, some
institutions did not provide the information on diversity of students awarded
master’s degrees in the academic year 2002-2003. Of 199 total respondents, 192
responded to the gender question and 189 responded to the race/ethnicity
question.
