Design of a Master's Degree Program in Public Administration and Public Policy

Description

Development of the Master's of Public Administration Program curriculum at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo with the assistance of Utah State University, including an emphasis on the decentralization of the State with the help of the National Commission for State Reform (CONARE).

Need  

The process of reform and decentralization of the State requires strong public management, especially at local and state levels of government.  Therefore, public administrators must receive adequate training to meet the demands of a new intergovernmental structure.

Objective  

To inform public managers how they can develop the technical-administrative capacities necessary to respond to new demands and responsibilities that will exist within the new State government structure.

Accomplishments  

  • Elaboration of the implementation program for the Master's of Public Administration Program.

  • Implementation of the Master's of Public Administration Program at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo.

  • Strengthening of relationships between national, state and local government institutions.
