Project Title

An Institutional Structure for the Development of Privately-owned Protected Areas in Chile

Description

The analysis  of the legal history of privately-owned protected areas, resulting in an institutional structure that  promotes the continued development of privately-owned protected areas on a national level 

Need  

The expansion of the current institutional system of privately-owned protected areas, including conceptual structure, regulations, and definition of institutional roles.

 Objectives  

Define and create a national institutional system for privately-owned protected areas (System of Private Protected Areas-SAPP), as well as define the first phase of the implementation process

Accomplishments  

Proposal for an institutional structure concerning privately-owned protected areas

The increased coordination among public institutions in charge of the protected areas

High level of participation on the decision making process from  the community members,  the private property owners and the academic community
