| What do you enjoy about your job? What aspects of your job are the most exciting or interesting? | ||
| Mainly
[I enjoy] the ability to connect the US and Russian
systems and people to achieve common goals and also
the challenge of introducing many concepts and tools
of fundraising to Russia. Fundraising is the new
tool for sustainability of civic society in Russia. |

| Why did you choose to pursue an MPA/MPP degree? | ||
| It
gives an international perspective in the important
field of development for Russia and globally. The
graduate level of education provided me with
experience and a deep knowledge and understanding of
public policy and how it can be applied in societies
where it was largely absent and completely
different. Russia is an example of this situation.
It remains a challenging environment for policy
makers to retain the country on the path of
democracy development. |

| How did you select your graduate school? | ||
| UMSL
competed among others in the US to have me as a
student. I was part of a Muskie fellowship
competition to place prominent students from former
Soviet Union countries. |
||

| How do you feel your MPA/MPP is helping you to make a difference? | ||
| The
degree allows me to stand out of the crowd in
Russia, equipping me with different knowledge,
outstanding experience and valuable connections in
the US. It ensured my success in bridging the two
countries, US and Russia, and in helping Russian
civil society see itself as independent and
self-sustainable with modern managerial governance.
One of the good examples of this continuous work is
the joint program between the organization I work
for and my alma mater. The program is a seminar for
local Russian politicians to introduce them to the
US public policy and American Federalism. The
program consists of two parts federal - in DC and
local in St. Louis (MO). Since 2003, it has educated
over 100 people who continue implementing received
experience and knowledge at the local levels in the
regions of Russia. |
