Until
his retirement in 2010, Admiral Allen was
Commandant of the US Coast Guard. He led federal responses
to crises in the Gulf Coast region: Hurricanes Katrina and
Rita in 2005, and to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in
2010.
Following the terrorist attacks of September
11, 2001, he was responsible for leading Coast Guard forces as
Commander of the Atlantic Area and U.S. Maritime Defense Zone
Atlantic.
Adm.
Allen is currently a Senior Fellow at the RAND Corporation.
He earned an MPA degree from The George Washington
University while on active duty.
