In April 2006, Sombat Metanee was elected to the Thailand Senate, representing the Bangkok region. Prior to entering politics, Metanee was a prolific actor in Thailand. He starred in more than 2,000 movies and soap operas and was considered Thailand's leading male actor and action star during the 1970s. Metanee once held the Guiness World Book of Records for having starred in the most films. In 2006, Metanee was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the Bangkok International Film Festival. Metanee has also directed 23 films. In between films, Metanee pursued a public affairs education. He has now given up acting to concentrate on his political aspirations.
