Robert Zoellick served as the
U.S. Deputy Secretary of State until July 2006 when he
resigned his position to join investment banking firm Goldman
Sachs as managing director. During his service as Deputy
Secretary, Zoellick supported more U.S. involvement in the
anti-genocide efforts in Sudan and was the premier architect
of a peace plan for Darfur. Zoellick was also involved in
crafting U.S. policy towards China. Prior to joining the State
Department, Zoellick was U.S. Trade Representative during the
first Bush term. Zoellick is considered an advocate of free
trade and was instrumental in leading negotiations to bring
China and Taiwain into the World Trade Association. Zoellick
has also served in various other positions in the U.S.
Department of the Treasury and in the private sector. |
