David
Petraeus was confirmed by the US Senate as CIA Director in June 2011, after a
distinguished career in the US Army.
He was the Commanding General of the Multi-National
Force-Iraq. Prior to this assignment he served as Commanding
General, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth.
In 2004 Petraeus was promoted to lieutenant general and
charged with the task of training the new Iraqi Army and
security forces as commander of the Multi-National Security
Transition Command Iraq.
He has also served as the commander of the 101st Airborne
Division during V Corps's drive to Baghdad, the NATO
Stabilization Force Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations
as well as the Deputy Commander of the U.S. Joint
Interagency Counter-Terrorism Task Force in Bosnia, the
Chief of Staff to the United Nations command in Haiti during
Operation Uphold Democracy.
Petraeus
received a Masters in Public Affairs from Princeton
University in 1985 and a PhD in international relations in
1987. He graduated from West Point in 1974.
