Update of Proposed NASPAA Standards Posted: Comments Due May
25
The proposed NASPAA Standards have been updated once again (April 15, 2009).
Click to
view. This is the last draft that will be posted for comment. All comments must be received by May
25, 2009. After this deadline, the only comments that will be accepted are formal amendments for change, which must be voted on by all accredited programs. You can email your comments to the chairs of the committees or to
copra@naspaa.org. Or you can comment on the NASPAA Standards 2009 wiki-page:

The highlighted changes in the latest draft are to the public values statements in the standards: important public values language has been moved from Standard 1.1 to Eligibility #2, and the language of Standard 6.1 regarding public values and competencies has been redrafted. Another change was made in the addition of the word “members” to Faculty Standards 7.1 and 7.2.
The vote on the proposed new accreditation standards will take place at the NASPAA Annual Business meeting on
Friday, October 16, at the NASPAA Annual Conference in Crystal City, Virginia. As per NASPAA bylaws, only principal representatives (or their designated alternates) from NASPAA-accredited programs can vote on changes to the accreditation standards.
Note that no proxy votes will be cast. Start making plans now for a representative to attend this meeting.

NASPAA-accredited
Master of Public Administration and Master of Public Policy
programs across the nation are embarking on a three-year
enterprise to develop and deliver a new set of quality measures
and assessment processes to be used in MPA/MPP program
accreditation.

As the needs of the public sector change, NASPAA must undertake an
earnest discussion of how to best educate and develop public
affairs leaders, ensuring that graduates of accredited programs
obtain the relevant and competitive skills and competencies they
need to excel in public service professions.
This venture begins by exploring the needs of employers, students
and the public sector, and will result in a new set of NASPAA
accreditation standards to be presented for a vote at the 2009
NASPAA Fall Conference. |
