Updated Policies and Procedures Released
On August 1, 2014, COPRA approved updates to the Peer Review and Accreditation Policies and Procedures. The revisions incorporate mostly administrative and logistical changes, such as increasing the membership of the Commission to 14 members, as approved in October 2013. Upcoming Site Visitor Training: September 15
NASPAA will host Site Visitor Training at the ICMA Annual Conference on September 15, 2014, at 9:30am, in the Charlotte Convention Center Westin Tryon Room. If you are interested in training to be a site visitor, please join us in Charlotte, NC! Before you attend, we ask that you watch a set of videos, less than 2 hours in total length, to orient yourself to the Accreditation process and Standards. Any questions? Contact Heather Gregory.

NASPAA Accredits Second Non-US Program
The Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration announced the accreditation of the Master of Public Policy program at the Korea Development Institute School of Public Policy and Management. This is the first graduate degree in Korea and second outside of the United States to be accredited by NASPAA’s Commission on Peer Review and Accreditation.  For more information, please click here.

2014 Self-Study Instructions Released!
The Commission on Peer Review and Accreditation (COPRA) is pleased to release the new, substantially scaled-back version of the 2014 Self-Study Instructions for NASPAA Accreditation. The 2014 release is marked by 51 percent reduction in data elements, which would not have been possible without the participation and feedback of each of our programs. The 2014 version of the Self-Study Instructions will apply in full to programs submitting Self-Study Reports on August 15, 2015. Programs submitting Self-Study Reports on August 15, 2014 have the option of following either the 2013 or 2014 Self-Study Instructions. To access the 2014 Self-Study Instructions, click here.

NASPAA-COPRA Achieves CHEA Recognition!

CHEA has re-recognized NASPAA-COPRA as the global accreditor of master’s degrees in public policy, public affairs and public administration! There are currently 180 accredited degree programs at 169 schools, representing 60 percent of NASPAA members, including the first international program in Summer 2013. Accreditation Fees Increase to Support New Initiatives
On March 21, 2014, the NASPAA Executive Council voted to modestly increase accreditation fees, for the first time in four years. The 3.3% increase will directly support the joint NASPAA-COPRA initiatives to enhance the Accreditation Institute, overall communications, and the COPRA process. The new fees will apply to those programs applying for accreditation (or reaccreditation) at the August 15, 2014 deadline, as well as those programs seeking eligibility at the August 1, 2014 deadline. Public Information Requirement
The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) expects recognized accreditors, including NASPAA, to require accredited programs to publicly provide student achievement data to their stakeholders. As the 2013 Policy Statement indicates, COPRA interprets student achievement data to include internship placement, graduation rates, and employment rates. COPRA expects all accredited programs to publicly provide these accountability measures to their stakeholders. A simple way to provide graduation and employment rates is to link to the NASPAA website. December 2013 COPRA Policy Statement
COPRA has released a policy statement announcing the slowing of the expectations of programs with regard to Standard 5. The Policy Statement, available here, is intended to replace the previously stated transition period expectations outlined in the June 2012 Policy Statement. The Statement also updates the Commission's expectations with regard to diversity.

Best Practices
Visit the updated Best Practices page for examples of self-study reports, diversity plans, and assessment plans from programs in the current and past cohorts. Remember, inclusion on this page does not signal a COPRA endorsement, but is instead meant to provide programs with insight into how peers have discussed conformance with the 2009 Standards.

NASPAA Diversity Report 2013
NASPAA is pleased to present its Diversity Report 2013: an in-depth look at the growth in diversity in NASPAA-accredited programs over the last decade. The report details diversity trends in the faculty and student populations of programs. The report also presents multiple case studies in best practice, featuring the University of New Orleans, University of New Mexico, Tsinghua University, and Carnegie Mellon University.

Apply for NASPAA Accreditation
Programs that wish to apply for NASPAA accreditation for the first time have two upcoming deadlines for Eligibility applications--April 1 and August 1. This initial phase is a prerequisite to submitting an accreditation Self-Study report. If you plan to submit an application, please contact NASPAA staff for more information on starting the process. All applying programs must be a NASPAA member.
